ABSTRACT

COVID 19 pandemic has brought disruption to the normal health care provision in health facilities, including health care for HIV patients. Unfortunately, studies regarding this issue are still scarce. This study aims to analyse health care provision for people living with HIV during COVID-19 pandemic based on previous studies on this issue. This study used the scoping review method by searching two databases: CINAHL (EBSCO) and MEDLINE (PubMed). The article search was limited to articles written in English that were published during the period of 2019-2021, resulting in fourteen articles that met the inclusion criteria. It is demonstrated that various measures have been implemented to provide HIV care during the COVID 19 pandemic, including 1) modification of health facilities layout, 2) reduction of hospitals visits for check-ups, 3) limited visit time, 4) ensuring the availability of PrEP and PEP services, 5) SARSCOV- 2 and HIV testing, 6) decentralisation, 7) telemedicine;and 8) reward provision. Further studies are required to develop effective interventions in delivering care for people with HIV during COVID-19 pandemic. © 2022 UPM Press. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Changes found on hematological examination are a helpful modality for assessing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In addition, platelet index is a parameter that can help in assessing the COVID-19 disease prognosis. AIM: Objective of the study is to determine the difference in platelet index in nucleid acid amplification test (NAAT) confirmed COVID-19 patients, suspected COVID-19 with negative NAAT results, and non-COVID-19 controls. METHODS: This is an analytical observational study with 96 subjects;48 subjects with confirmed COVID-19, 23 subjects suspected COVID-19 with negative NAAT results, and 24 non-COVID-19 control subjects. First, NAAT examination was carried out using the GeneXpert tool with the target genes of the E and N2 genes. Then, the platelet index was compared between the three groups by the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in the number of platelet (PLT), mean PLT volume (MPV), and PLT crit (PCT) between the three groups with p = 0.732, 0.741 and 0.483, respectively. In general, the number of PLT, MPV, and PCT in the three groups was within the normal reference value. CONCLUSIONS: There were no significant differences observed in the number of PLT, MPV, and PCT between COVID-19 patients with positive NAAT, COVID-19 suspects with negative NAAT, and non-COVID-19 controls. Therefore, detecting the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus by NAAT examination in COVID-19 patients has not altered the PLT index changes.

ABSTRACT

The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has caused various unprecedented impacts to the whole world. In relation to this, Malaysia has enforced the Movement Control Over (MCO) starting on 18 March 2020 in order to fight the global COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and caused socio-economic shocks that left no one untouched. The pandemic also has forced all employees, including academicians, to practice Work from Home (WFH). In relation to this, the implementation of e-learning may incur academicians' acceptance that might be influenced by their attitudes towards internet connection, utilizing electronic equipment, and others to ensure an effective e-learning process. This study is aimed to examine the effects of gender, age, and internet competency on internet usage among academicians during the MCO. A total of 223 respondents participated in this study through a purposive sampling method which was conducted among academicians using an online questionnaire. Chi-square analysis was performed to examine the association among genders, age groups, and internet competency with internet usage. The results of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the respondents' genders and internet competency on internet usage among academicians during the MCO (χ2 = 0.002, p<0.05). However, it was found that there is no significant relationship between the respondents' age and their internet usage (χ2 = 0.665, p>0.05). In a situation where the country is facing the COVID-19 pandemic and the MCO, the use of the internet has become very important. This study also found that there are differences in internet usage among respondents of different genders and levels of efficiency. But when the online learning method was implemented, all academicians were no exception. Therefore, the age difference of academicians was found not to affect the use of the internet. Future studies by adding more respondents among teachers and those from private institutions are recommended, other than focusing on attitudes and perceptions which will benefit various parties, especially the academicians. © 2021 Author(s).

ABSTRACT

The implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO) method to break COVID-19 chain to save the nation has affected the daily routine of the residential college students at the universities. Those who were not infected by the disease were categorized as the Non-quarantined students where they had to undergo certain rules and regulations during the crisis. This study aims to identify the perceptions of that the Non-Quarantined students at the residential colleges of a Malaysian technical public university towards communicational service provided during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 520 students residing at the residential colleges participated in the study. Five main aspects of communication at the residential college were studied: instant updates;platforms;availability of information;admin responses;and counselling service. The analysis conducted using Statistical Package for The Social Science Version 25.0 (SPSS 25) showed that the mean score for the highest aspect was on the instant updates (4.11) provided to the non-quarantined students during the Covid-19 crisis. The findings indicated that majority of the respondents were satisfied with the communication service provided where the mean score was 3.99. The respondent provided the lowest mean score (3.87) for the aspect of counselling service. Thus, this study would recommend that the residential colleges of the universities should upgrade the service of counselling sections and make them known to the students for them to utilize the services to the maximum. © 2021 Author(s).

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Early detection of risk factors for pregnancy is carried out through regular prenatal examinations from an early age to detect abnormalities/disorders/illnesses suffered by pregnant women early. Mobile applications are very helpful in the process of early detection and recording of health workers’ reports, especially during a pandemic. AIM: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, actions, and skills of pregnant women in the early detection of high-risk pregnancy before and after the intervention and the effectiveness of M.D-Risti modules and applications. METHODS: This study used a quasi-experiment design research design with a pre-post only group design consisting of an intervention group and a control group at 4 health centers in Palu City with a purposive sampling technique of 43 respondents per group with univariate and bivariate analysis. RESULTS: The results showed that there was a significant difference in the level of knowledge (p = 0.00), attitude (p = 0.00), action (p = 0.00), and the skills of pregnant women in early detection of pregnancy (p = 0.00) before and after treatment in the intervention group. There was a significant difference between the two groups with a significant value on knowledge (p = 0.00), attitude (p = 0.00), action (p = 0.00), and skills of pregnant women in doing early detection of pregnancy risk independently (p = 0.00). CONCLUSION: The intervention of M.D-Risti modules and applications had a significant effect on changes in knowledge, attitudes, actions, and skills of pregnant women in early detection of pregnancy risk compared to pregnant women who were not given intervention at all. The M.D-Risti application is one of the solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the long term, all health centers in Palu city can use it to help monitor the risk of pregnancy more quickly. © 2021 Ketut Suarayasa, Elli Yane Bangkele, Sumarni Sumarni, Haerani Harun, Bohari Bohari.
